Simulation Helps Design Leaky Mode Dielectric Antenna in 1/5 Normal Time

August 2004

If you combine a new antenna technology with a unique application, it can prove challenging at best, impossible at worst. When Deltenna was asked to produce a prototype 16-beam antenna for a Mesh network field trial at 5.8GHz they proposed an array of dielectric resonator antennas. This enabled them to meet the tight size and cost constraints, but having first prototypes within six months was daunting.
The combination of Deltenna’s engineering expertise and the MicroStripes electromagnetic software from Flomerics made for a winning team. They were able to quickly design and simulate a single element and select a low-cost solution that met their design goals. This could then be simulated in an array and prototyped to meet the customer’s requirements.
