WiBE Support

From time to time Deltenna issues new releases of firmware for the WiBE. These add new features and correct problems that have been identified in earlier releases. If you are not experiencing any problems with your WiBE and don't need any new features, we advise not updating the firmware. The release notes below show what has changed from earlier releases. Although we have included a number of releases below, you should generally always update to the latest release (the one at the bottom of the table).

Note that if you have a Buzz Networks Hubb@ you should not use these software releases. The Hubb@ uses WiBE technology, but is different and uses different software. Equivalent releases will be available from Buzz Networks.

To  update the firmware on your WiBE, please follow the following instructions:

1. Download the new firmware to your computer. This is usually done by pressing the right-hand button of your mouse while hovering the cursor over the name of the firmware release, then selecting "Save as" or "Save link as".

2. Log onto your WiBE in the normal way. Expand the Administration menu on the left side of the screen and select "Upload Firmware".  Use the "Browse" button to search and find the file of the new version of firmware.  Now click "Apply" and the WiBE will do the rest. It is very important that the link between your computer and the WiBE is not interrupted during this process. The actual upload takes about two minutes, and then the WiBE will restart.

3. After the WiBE has restarted, reset it to factory defaults (see entry on the FAQ page of www.deltenna.com). This is necessary as settings from an older version of the software may not be compatible with the new version.

1.1.1.1

<WiBE_1.1.1.1._DT.bin>

22 OCT 2010

Compared to earlier releases, this release provides a much improved speed on the user interface. If you log onto your WiBE to make regular changes then it is worth upgrading to this release or a later release. It also adds the feature of enabling you to set your own WAN (3G) IP address and DNS rather than taking those from the network. This feature is only of use to organisations having their own APNs and SIM cards and should not generally be used.

1.1.1.8

<WiBE_1.1.1.8._DT.bin>

15 DEC 2010

This release corrects two specific problems that were found in release 1.1.1.1:

  1. Release 1.1.1.1 does not work if you use a SIM that has is locked with a PIN (Personal Identification Number), so if you need to use a PIN you must upgrade to this release or later.
  2. In release 1.1.1.1 the Load Default on-screen button loads some incorrect defaults. In particular, it changes the WiFi SSID to something different from the SSID on the label on the WiBE and sets the WPA key to "12345678". The release corrects this.

1.2

<WiBE_1.2_DT.bin>

13 SEP 2011

This release corrects several problems that were found in the previous release.

  1. Automatic connection - Version 1.2 does not usually require you to give any details of your operator or SIM in the Web user interface, it will detect this information and connect automatically.  This process can take up to around 5 minutes the first time a new SIM card is used. Once found, the information is stored for your SIM and subsequent connections are faster. If the WiBE cannot connect automatically, the 3G light will flash rapidly and you may need to enter connection settings manually on the 'Internet Settings' > '3G' page of the Web user interface.
  2. 3G Error Indication - Version 1.2 indicates problems that need user attention for things like SIM PIN, no SIM, registration denied, etc. This is indicated by the 3G light flashing rapidly. Note - the 3G LED light can also flash rapidly for a brief time when searching for the APN settings.
  3. Retest for best antenna - Version 1.2 has a more robust connection but if there are changes within the network or after a lost connection or manually changed APN the WiBE will retest for the best connection automatically - as well as on start-up and a specific time of day, if requested.
  4. Download test override - Version 1.2 allows the download test to be turned off, the WiBE will then select the best antenna based on only signal strength.
  5. PAP/CHAP - Version 1.2 allows selection of either PAP or CHAP within the 3G UI page in the WiBE control panel.
  6. Spanish Translation - Version 1.2 has the option to select the Spanish language within the WiBE control panel.
